"We've got the best keeper, in the world!"

That's not a chant you hear often at Molineux. You might even have to look fifty years back to hear that one.

I hear lots of arguments over who really is the best goalkeeper in the world and of course, the obvious candidates regularly come up. My friends talk of Cassilas, Cesar, Cech, Buffon and Murray (just kidding, they have no idea who he is) as the best.

BUT, if you look at the statistics and a list complied by Castrol Rankings (http://www.castrolfootball.com/rankings/rankings/) you will see who they have come up with as the best players in the world. And quite shockingly, Wolves have one player at eighteenth.

We signed him on a one year deal on a free last summer. He arrived from Reading, merely as a back up to at the time number one Wayne Hennessey. In November, after conceding four goals two games running he was drafted in.

Since then, Marcus Hahnemann hasn't looked back. He played a major part in keeping us up and brought a calming presence to our own penalty area. I didn't agree with Mick's decision to drop Hennessey, but I must say that was one of the changes that kept us up. He had the best shots to saves ratio, and that is a lot of shots in a team trying to stay up.

He hasn't got the praise he has deserved from the outside. Wolves fans obviously praise him all the time, and you get the odd comment (notably from Arsene Wenger, who said after the one nil defeat to Arsenal that he had been excellent) but he is one of the many unsung heroes of our season. He will undoubtedly continue to get on with his job, and with the possibility of a fit Matt Murray at some stage I don't think we need to worry about our goalkeepers.

  1. He's a quality keeper, one of the best we have had for a long time.

I think Murray is better but what use is he injured? If fit, I do believe he is the best English keeper

  2. Hahnemann is a star but best keeper in the world? Was Jody Craddock in the top twenty too?
