How many great games have we seen this season? The entertainment keeps getting better and better, as do the results.
We kept the momentum from last weeks win going, and probably deserved more than the solitary point we got. Who knows what would have happened if Alan Hutton had been given the red card he deserved?
It was a fantastic game for all, a fitting tribute to the late Dean Richards but I still can't help feeling robbed. Not only the incident with Hutton, but the fact that we had a perfectly good goal disallowed. Halsey, the ref, has a clear view of the "foul" where Gomes grabs Stearman by the neck, and lets the ball slip into the net. Unbelievable.
The tempo we played at was quite something, we didn't let Spurs play at all and were just as much threatening going forward as they were. The return to form of Matthew Jarvis was a key part of that, Hutton had absolutely no idea what to do with him. He has had problems before with Jarvis, earlier this season and at home to Sunderland on the final day of the season (where he conceded a penalty). On the opposite flank we have a winger in Hammill who reminds me of Michael Kightly a lot. Tricky on the ball, an excellent cross and the desire to win the ball back once it is lost. He can only get better, one would think.
When Mick threw on the two forwards, changing to a four two four formation I was worried. Credit to the manager, it worked perfectly and we rarely looked over run in the midfield. That was partly down to skipper Karl Henry, who was my man of the match by some distance. He did the work of two men in thee middle, allowing a tired Nenad Milijas to do his stuff further forward. People laughed at him being a potential England player, but a performance like that just shows why Fabio Capello likes him.
Hennessey - 6
Foley - 7
Stearman - 7
Berra - 7
Elokobi - 8
Hammill - 7
Henry - 9
Ward - 7
Milijas -8
Jarvis - 8
Doyle - 8
Subs: Ebanks-Blake - 7, Fletcher - 7
It's a performance like that, with heart and hunger that makes you proud to be a Wolf.
We get a more than deserved two week rest now, with four tough games coming up. Perhaps we should be more confident then, as we certainly have a knack of picking up unexpected points.

We have lost a lot of points through halsey, the guy is cheat/corrupt, over all we deserved the three points, the two lost could be the difference between survial and relegation, with O'Hara back for the rest of the season and possibly kites I still believe we can do it.
ReplyDeleteWe are Wolves Onwards and Upwards.
So Henry MOTM and Ward on 7 with Stearman and Foley ? How many points do you award for giving the ball away and being caught in possession ?
ReplyDeleteIm a spurs fan of forty odd years, thought Wolves looked great, great match to watch, you are correct my friend, by the letter of the law Hutton should of gone, the goal that was dissallowed was perfectly good (Gomez fouled your player then threw it in his own net) dont think you will go down but it is all looking very tight down there, from a spurs pospective if we are to be considered as champions league material, we should of taken one of the three great chances we had after Bale and Lennon came on, making it 4-2 and out of reach, although you were well worth the point maybe 3
ReplyDeleteAs a Spurs fan I do not understand how Hutton stayed on the pitch. As soon as he gave the penalty I expected the red. However I cannot agree that the goal was wrongly dissalowed. Stearman made no attempt to go for the ball and only made contact with it after he had gone straight through Gomes. If Spurs would have scored a goal like that I am sure you all would have been furious. Good luck for the rest of the season and please send West Ham down!!
ReplyDeleteWhile you had a lot of chances, when you were three-two up we also missed a few. I thought both teams were great, both going for the win and both played some great football.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on wednesday!
It's a matter of opinion Ray.
ReplyDeleteward is no way the poor player many make him out to be. While Mick definitely over rates him a bit, and some of the stuff he does to get him in the team are odd the fans are too wquick to get on his back. His linl up play was fine, sometimes sloppy and he worked hard to stop Spurs playing.
Henry was immense! as I said, he did the job of two men in the midfield and kept the ball well for us.
Stearman and Foley both also had average games. Stearman you could blame for the second, while Foley was his usual consistent self.
Agreed. That's the third player he should have sent off at Molineux. Warnock (who set up the winner after) and Fabregas should also have been off!
ReplyDeletebring O'Hara in for Ward, and we've got a very good team. It will be a shame if we aren't playing Premier League football next year, because this team could easily be a comfortable mid table side.
