It looks like it will take longer than we initially thought to sort the defence out. Zubar was atrocious, Ward looked disheartened, and Stearman and Johnson looked like lost little boys and barely talked throughout the game. With Foley still to return, I think we will at least two defensive reinforcements.

3. We have a safe pair of hands for now
I was worried that with Hennessey injured and Dorus de Vries wanting away, Carl Ikeme might not be up to the job for the time being but this was a confident performance from him. he came and collected crosses, his kicking was fine and he made a couple of decent saves.
4. Sylvan looks hungry, Doyle doesn't
I was disappointed that it was SEB who was taken off ahead of Kevin Doyle. Sylvan showed some good movement, linked up player as well as Doyle did and was also doing a decent job of occupying the forwards. Kevin Doyle however, aside from a bright start, was very poor. He still looks short of confidence.
5. There's still another 45 league games to go!
For those feeling downbeat, relax! It wasn't a great performance but there were signs that we could knock the ball about competently. It's going to take time, but we will get there with hard work and patience. if we get behind the lads they will produce.
Doumbia looked great as did the other new signings. Defence certainly as poor as last season. Need to get the window closed and confidence back in the relegated players and it can still come good
ReplyDeleteThe wolves players seemed very nervous in the first half. The second half were dominated entirely by the wolves. The two strikers did not find each other well, so we need Fletcher. Fletcher and Sigurdarson could be a combination worth the shot, if he stays. As you mentioned above, Peszko did well. He was a bit hot headed at some occations, but also did manage to set up players and worked tirelessy defensively. Doumbia should be tied up as soon as possible. Ikeme played like he had played as a first team regular for ages. A positive team performance with the exception of our strikers which didn't have their day. Jarvis looked a bit rusty too. A couple of games and we are there...
ReplyDeleteVery fair comments. I liked the look of the Icelander. I thought Jarvis was disappointing with most of his crosses going to far and a shame the new guy didn't have the confidence to go straight for goal but as stated above nothing to be too concerned with
ReplyDeleteKightly scored a goal which was a blunder by the Reading keeper and Guedioura scored for Nottingham. Weird results in premier.
ReplyDeleteSylvan looks hungry ? Looks like he's had more than enough to eat judging by his size ! His first touch is bloody awful and his scoring record of 1 in 18 speaks for itself. May have done the biz 4/5 years ago but doesn't look upto it now.
