Big Match Preview

Well here we are. After the first game I thought this might be our first chance to get our first points. My brother's birthday is this weekend, last time we were in the premier league, it was on his birthday that we got our first point of the season.

But this time it's different. We haven't conceded ten goals without scoring. We've let in three and scored one great goal. This time we already have three points with three impressive performances. This time we have a younger, hungrier side with probably more talent. Our best player last time, although I hate to say it, was Henri Camara. He couldn't finish until we were down but he was great to watch. I think he was a bit like we hope Jarvis to be.
The opposition

They did it the hard way. Winning one of the last twenty games after a fantastic start, but I just don't think Wolves fans could take that sort of run. Hull fans seemed way to relaxed about it, it was quite scary. I suppose they were just happy to be there instead of moaning about it.

Depsite being a bit mental (making the players sit on the pitch for half time and his karaoke) Phil 'Tango' Brown has done a good job. He produced a miracle to get them up and for them to stay there, while they were the team most written off along with Stoke.

I think they will go down this season though, Ghilas and Altidore look like good buys but Olofinjana? What was he thinking? (He'll be out of the team by christmas and gone by june)

I thought their best player last season was Mendy. He was fantastic to watch. His pace was awesome and he scored a few goals aswell. And what about Geovanni, a fantastic start but then fell out with Brown for being substituted. He appears to have sorted out his act, unfortunately for us.

I think we might go with 4-5-1 but I won't be suprised if we go with 4-4-2. Doyle and Keogh upfront would be good.

Here's my line up.

GK:Hennessey
Defence: Stearman, Craddock, Mancienne, Ward
Midfield: Henry, Edwards, Milijas, Halford, Jarvis
Forward: Keogh

Kevin Foley is still out, but Ward is fit and as much as I would like to see George Elekobi start I think Ward is Mick's starter at the moment.

Hopefully Milijas can last the full 90 minutes. he's the player we need to be the fittest, because when other teams start to tire he can create. He set up the goal for Keogh. Let's hope he get's the chance to shoot around the penatly area.

My Prediction: 3-2. Jarvis will be important in this match. If he can improve his end product a bit more, we will get goals.

Your predictions?

I'm on twitter!

Yes I am on twitter, do you have it? Please follow. Tell me yours and I'll follow.

Saturday is a big match, It will show we can beat the teams around us which is going to be the most important thing this season.

If Stephen Ward is not fit after picking up a knock then that would mean elekobi coming in. Elekobi has already become a bit of a fans favourite without really playing much. Goerge made me feel much better about him in the premier league with the way he played last saturday.

Preview to come tomorrow!

Bloody Boring but we did it

From everything I've haeard it sounded very dull yet we got through it. I can't remember when we last one on penalties (if you know please tell me) . All six penalties were scored the winner being Neill Collins.
I think the draw is on saturday, let's hope we get an easy one.

Anyways.. well done Wolves!

Cup Preview

Our first cup game of the season starts in several hours against Swindon. Swindon have won one game in the league and one in the cup. They beat Paul Ince's MK Dons 4-1 at the Don's stadium just days after Gillingham gave them a 5-0 hammering. They will be looking to create an upset but can they really beat our team of fringe players. I think not, we haven't been on a decent cup run for a few years and I think this could be our chance to get to some of the latter rounds.

I reckon this will be our team;
Hahnemann, Elekobi, Berra, Zubar, Stearman, Surman, Milijas, Jones, Edwards, Doyle and Vokes.
Halford and Ward picked up knocks, Mick will want to rest his key players for the bug match on saturday. There are rumours that James Spray will start but I can't see who instead of, maybe him on the right of midfield. Can't see it though. Milijas needs another half a game, he's come off every game which won't be good enough over the whole season.

A deal to sign holding midfielder Segundo Castillo is supposed to be completed in the next few days, I remember him as being crap. Everton fans were glad to see the back of him, his only highlight of the season being a wonder goal against Belgian side Standard Liege.

Blog ya later.

Man City 1 Wolves 0

Our best performance so far I think. I haven't seen the goal because that's when my 'iraqgoals' stream stopped working. Man City looked like a good side, Tevez and Adebayor linked well. Tevez missed a golden chance and I thought, maybe we can get someting from this game.

The second half was really fantastic. We pressed them really hard, they had some chances, Ireland missing a one on one and Bellamy missed a sitter, but we played some fantastic stuff.

Elekobi came on at half time and handled Wright-Phillips with ease. He is quick, strong and he is good offensively. Doyle looked half-fit, he will benefit from playing in the cup.

When Keogh hit the bar I really thought we weren't gonna get that bit of luck. Shay Given proved his worth with a fantastic save from Matty Jarvis' curling shot.

I think our two central defenders look like premiership defenders, especially Mancienne.

GK. Wayne Hennessey: 7/10 - Looking very comfortable.
RB. Richard Stearman: 6/10 - Did well to contain Robinho.
CB. Jody Craddock: 7/10 - Lead well.
CB. Michael Mancienne: 8/10 - Reading of the game was fantastic.
LB. Stephen Ward: 6/10 - Did well against City's superstar attack.
RM. Greg Halford: 6/10 - Quiet game, subbed at half time due to injury.
CM. Dave Edwards: 8/10 - Ran himself into the ground, looked intelligent on the ball too.
CM. Karl Henry: 8/10 - Another brilliant performance, kept City's midfielders quiet.
CM. Nenad Milijas: 6/10 - Very quiet. Looked tired.
LM. Matt Jarvis: 8/10 - A real threat, a lot more positive than the previous matches.
CF. Andy Keogh: 7/10 - Played well and nearly earnt us a draw.
S1. George Elekobi (for Halford) :8/10 - First premier league appearance and pushing for a start.
S2. Kevin Doyle (for Milijas) : 6/10 - Half fit but still looked a threat. Will get better.
S3. Sam Vokes (for Ward): 6/10 - Didn't see much of him but won the ball in the air a lot.

Man of the match: Dave Edwards - Looks to have won his place in the team. Doesn't look out of place in the top flight.

Big Match Preview

After the away win at Wigan that nobody expected, I'm optimistic that against a star studded team still not fully gelled, a point is possible.

Our away form was good last season. Get an early goal and defend the lead, counter attacking when they've committed themselves. Matty Jarvis could cause City problems, if he get's the crosses in, Keogh or Halford could get on the end of them.

Mick has expressed his views on City about them not being able to win the league. I don't even think they'll finish in the top five/six. As it is City's first home game, we'll be hoping to spoil it for them. Their next few games are us, Arsenal and United. They'll be thinking this could be their last points for a couple of games.

It sounds like Berra and Doyle are fit according to sky sports news. Big Mick will probably go with the same formation, and most likely the same team.

Key Men

The Defence: If they can keep 50 millions worth of strikers fustrated, this will suit Jarvis and co to counter attack. My Prediction: 1-1 ( Wolves will take the lead, but can we hold it?)
Milijas to score form 30 yards

Match Review - Wigan 0 Wolves 1

Our first away win in the top flight since 1984 when, bottom of the table, we beat league leaders Liverpool at Anfield with the jammiest goal ever by long forgotten striker Steve Mardenborough.

My online stream (which had worked wonders in the first half) kept conking out in the second half, causing panic in the house. We would turn on sky sports news to make sure it was still one nil. Eventually, we made it to the final whistle.

I haven't seen the penalty appeal but I heard the ref booked Keogh unfairly for diving.
Gk, Wayne Hennessey: 7/10
RB, Richard Stearman: 7/10 (Yellow Card)
CB, Jody Craddock: 7/10
CB, Michael Mancienne: 9/10
LB, Stephen Ward: 7/10
RM, Greg Halford: 7/10
CM, Dave Edwards: 8/10 (Yellow Card)
CM, Karl Henry: 8/10
CM, Nenad Milijas: 7/10 (Assist)
LM, Matthew Jarvis: 7/10
CF, Andy Keogh: 8/10 (Goal) (Yellow Card)
S1: David Jones (for Milijas):6/10
S2: Andrew Surman (for Halford): 6/10
S3:Sam Vokes (for Keogh)
MOTM: Michael Mancienne
Solid and unflappable. Didn't put a foot wrong.

Off the mark..

We've done it. We've got our first points of the season. Wolves first ever premier league away win, I can't believe it. A fantastic header from Keogh who did not stop running, Henry was fantastic, as was Mancienne.

I really think we can kick on from this, Man City away is tough but after that defensive display we could get something from that game. We will have Berra back who will probably be sub, Mick probably won't change anything in the defence.

My little brother Joshie said to me he had a feeling we would win, I reminded him of our awful away record last time and told him we might get a draw. Milijas set up the goal with a brilliant free kick but again he was taken off half way thorugh the second half.

Probably blog tomorrow, see ya!

Match Preview - Wolves v Wigan

Tonight is a tough match, we have 8 injured players (4 of them strikers) and Wigan look full of confidence after beating Villa easily at Villa Park.

I still feel positive though, a draw is possible if we defend well. We might evev be able to nick it. It definitely looks like 4-5-1. I reckon Keogh upfornt on his own, so we won't be booting it up to the strikers. Keogh chases the ball all night long which will cause Wigan problems as they like to play with the ball in defence.

My Prediction: 0-0. I can't see us scoring but if we can contain their attack our first point could be on it's way.

Sylvan's out

For a few weeks after limping off at the end of satuday's match. I think Mick will have to play 1 up front tomorrow, but who? Doyle might still be out but can Keogh play upfront on his own. I'm not too sure. He can definietely do enough running. He was excellent on the ball aswell, him and Milijas were our most dangerous players. I'll probably have more news tomorrow, so keep a look out!

Oh well....

Not a great start to the new season. I watched on the computer with my family and it was very exciting but we just couldn't finish our chances, something West Ham did.
I was surprised with the 4-4-2. I think he was showing a lot of trust in Milijas who I must say looked the business. He has a great left foot and his pass which Sylvan should have scored was fantastic. There were quite a few positives to take out and it was a good game but the defending was awful for the second goal.
We looked like we can play but we have to prove we can take our chances on wednesday against Wigan who I was largely impressed by.
Man City are after and they looked quite good.

Hopefully Berra will be back next match with Doyle although the stand in striker for him, Keogh, was probably our best player. Hopefully Kightly will be back soon.

GK, Wayne Hennessey: 7/10

RB, Kevin Foley: 7/10

CB, Jody Craddock: 7/10

CB, Michael Mancienne: 7/10

LB, Stephen Ward :7/10

RM, Greg Halford: 7/10

CM, Karl Henry: 9/10

CM, Nenad Milijas: 8/10

LM, Matthew Jarvis: 7/10

CF, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake: 7/10

CF, Andy Keogh: 8/10

S1, Richard Stearman (for Mancienne): 6/10

S2, Dave Edwards (for Milijas): 6/10

S3, Sam Vokes (for Foley): 6/10

MOTM: Karl Henry, Industrious and efficient, showed he is premiership class with his tireless work.

1 day to go!

Well, some good news and some bad..
We have Michael Mancienne on loan from Chelsea for the year ( he's not allowed to play against them or in the league cup) but Christophe Berra will not be playing against West Ham after picking up a hamstring injury when he came on for Scotland against Norway. It's not looking good for Kevin Doyle either.

It looks like a 4-5-1 (0r 4-3-3) to me for our first game of the season.

Hennessey
Foley Craddock Mancienne Ward
Henry
Milijas Jones
Halford Jarvis
Ebanks-Blake

I'm quite confident about this team. West Ham look like they will have to play 1 up front with Carlton Cole who looked very impressive on wednesday against the Dutch.

Well, til tomorrow, bye!

MyWolvesBlog

Hi I'm YoungWolf,
I'm going to be blogging this season about Wolves in the premierleague.

So far we have signed ;

Kevin Doyle (£6.5M from Reading)
Nenad Milijas (£2.5M from Red Star Belgrade)
Ronald Zubar (£2.25M from Marseille)
Greg Halford (£2M from Sunderland)
Andrew Surman (£1.5M from Southampton)
Marcus Hahnemann (Free from Reading)

Some very good signings I think, Doyle spent two seasons in the Prem and scored some goals, Milijas is the Serbian National captain, Zubar has played in the champions league, Halford has played for numerous teams in the premierleague with Surman a young star and Hahnemann another premierleague experienced goalie providing back up for Hennessey.

Apparentley Michael Mancienne is in Wolverhampton now. A season long loan which in my opinion will be a fantastic signing. Him and Berra can have a strong partnership.

There is also talk about the austrian Peter Crouch. Stefan Maierhofer is 6ft 7 inches and has a decent scoring record for Raoid Wien.

Hopefully I will have a new post when Mancienne has signed.

Only two days to go. Come on you Wolves!
