This is the first match I haven't watched/listened to a match. And boy am I glad! Sunday league football had made it impossible for me to know anything of the score until I saw a whole load of texts after the game had finished. I saw the "highlights" on MOTD2.
First of all, it's good to hear we coped well with the missiles that are Rory Delap's throw ins. Many good teams have been made to look silly by these but we had a plan and stuck with it. Marcus Hahnemann commanded his area and Berra and Craddock hardly let anything past them.
As I had expected, the Molineux faithful saw the return of Dave Edwards. I didn't expect him to have a good game, as he hadn't looked fit at the Emirates but he was one of our best players.
Although Stoke were all over us for the opening ten minutes or so, it was a pretty even game and neither side really deserved all three points. Kevin Foley came close again and Milijas free kick late on tested Sorensen. I hope we see more of Nenad.
What worries me is Doyle. Against Everton and Arsenal he looked tired. I don't blame him, he puts so much effort in but maybe he could do with a rest. Imagine if Ireland had gone to the World Cup, he'd be knackered!
Hahnemann - 8
Zubar - 7
Craddock - 8
Berra - 8
Elokobi - 7
Foley - 7
Edwards - 8
Mancienne - 7
Jones - 7
Jarvis - 7
Doyle - 7
Don't agree with my marks? I didn't see much so tell me where you think I went wrong.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ that was me during the match.
ReplyDeleteWhat worries me most is our defensive approach at home! I cna understand this when we might be scraping for points, but next season we must change this because we are better than that.
I hope Doyle has a nice break this week. Did you hear about Hahnemann? He wore red sunglasses during the match. MArcus is the meaning of cool.
BORING! That showing is now what I use to put my kid to sleep!
ReplyDeleteOnly we could be so boring at home. Stoke played their part in that but we need to get it down. Maybe that's how we missed Henry. He is usually very good at that
Another point nearer to safety. A point more away from the relegation zone!
ReplyDeleteWe need to continue our good form (one loss in six!) and we can make it one in seven at Fulham, who I believe have a game in the midweek around that weekend.

Another point closer. Who cares if it was boring? Stoke have established themselves in the Premier without any concern for how entertaining they are and if we can emulate them I'll be more than happy. There's a time and a place for 'expansive' football but this isn't it. Let's hope we can clinch our place soon and start planning the gradual improvement next season. These things take time and those who try to move too fast are all too likely to come a cropper. Look at Portsmouth
ReplyDeleteMot boring game of the year, terrible football. How old is delap now, maybe he will retire soon and Stoke will go down? Hope so.
ReplyDeleteAtleast we didn't lose I guess. Rarther lose and it be an entertaining game than draw and make me sleep/.
Boring indeed. I've seen Birmingham matches with more life. is this all we're ever gonna get while we're in the top flight? I think I'd rather be in the championship winning in style than grinding out nil nils in the premier league
ReplyDeleteStop bloody whingeing. If you survive in the premier league as long as us you'll be lucky. I didn't hear you booing when your full back started lobbing them in. Anyway, what do you think you bought Halford for, his guile and finesse?
