Hoff he goes

Stefan Maierhofer has joined German club Duisburg. He joins them on a season long loan which could turn permanent if he impresses.

He found chances in the Wolves team hard to come by last season, only starting once in the league in that match at Old Trafford.

Given a fair chance?
He scored on his Wolves debut at Blackburn, and in his next appearance was unfairly sent off. He went on loan to Bristol but hardly played, having to play in goal in one of his few appearances for them.

I never thought he was given a fair chance. At 6ft 8in, he was brought in as a big man but Mick found out soon that he wasn't really an aerial threat. Hard working, and could have become a cult hero but never played a full game. In the one appearance I saw him at a game, when he came on against Everton I was impressed. He got stuck in, was positive on the ball and annoyed the hell out of the Everton defenders, getting  punched by Tim Howard. In the game when Mick made ten changes I thought he did ok, holding up the ball well but Wolves fans had by then agreed he wasn't good enough.

His Wolves career isn't completely over, but it doesn't look like he'll be playing for us again. I'll be looking out for how he does.

  1. He's sh*t, he can go. Now for Ikeme, Halford and Hill to leave so we can bring someone decent in.

    Given a chance? Probably not.

    Crap? Yes he was.

With a couple other strikers being linked with a move away I think we might be in for a striker. Dindane anyone?

  3. I'm not surprised to see him go but I agree, he should have had more of a chance. He's a good player, but needed time to adapt to the hustle and bustle of the English league. Good luck Stefan!

  4. Mrs Dunsworth, Ikeme is a decent young keeper we should hang on to.

Regardign Hoff, at the level we are now operating, we can't afford to allow players of his calibre to 'bed in', we need already established prem strikers, like Fletcher and Doyle, and then build a team around them. Also, as stated, his lack of aerial prowess negated the sole stand out attribute he possessed - ie height.

best of luck to the big lad though, and if football doesn't work out for him he can always go back to the cooking!

  5. I agree anonymous, Ikeme is a decent keeper who we should keep. Murray isn't fit so we need three fit keepers right now.

Ah the Hoff, good luck to him but I won't be crying when he leaves permanently.

  6. what is the point in buying (for 2 million or so) a striker you never really actually give a chance to? so mick must have not liked what he saw in training we must conclude. surely the scouting system should be comprehensive enough to avoid this kind of farce. personally, I thought he looked like he might be a bit of a handful in the rough and tumble of the premier league given a fair chance. And was always more mobile than iwelumo
