What a shame

After hearing that Carl Ikeme had gone on loan, the thought of Matthew Murray in our 25 man squad seemed a real possibility. Five minutes later, I see the terrible, terrible news on the Wolves website that he has retired.

Murray with my brother
He is one of the unluckiest footballers ever, and who knows what could have happened with his career. To me, he would have no doubt been the No.1 at the World Cup for England on the back of a full season in the Premier League. He could have even been the No.1 at the 2006 World Cup.

It's terrible, because he obviously loves the club as much as the club loves him. He wouldn't have left us to join a bigger club because he would have wanted to repay the club.

Only this month was he telling fans, I need a few reserve games before I am fit. It sounded like he might even have a chance of making the 25.

He should have a job for life at Wolves, hopefully he'll eventually become the goalkeeping coach.

Thank you and good luck Matt.

To move on from the bad news, we have some good news. I was delighted when I heard yesterday that we had signed Michael Mancienne on a season long loan. He will add a lot to our squad, as he can play in a lot of positions.

  4. what a tragedy. a truly great keeper and a tremendous ambassador for the club. and if he'd been fit these last few years the world cup debacle would never have happened I've been very impressed with the club's response too. Moxey's comments were good to hear. Surely some kind of testimonial is in order

  5. The truth is we'll never really know what Matt could've achieved. Maybe he would have played for england, maybe not. It's a good job we have the 2 Hs though.
