Good luck Jelle |
It comes as a surprise to me, as it sounded like me might just be starting to settle in. He has a new born child, and it was believed that his family was moving to England in January.
It's a shame because he has all the makings of a premier League footballer. Strong, aggressive, good in the air (one of the best I've seen in fact) and decent on the ball. Perhaps not a left back, as we had hoped he would be but as a wide or central midfielder. It even sounded like he was one of the lads, but maybe being away from his family was too hard for him.
Moving on, what do we do with the two and half million we recouped for him? You'd expect us to go for a left back, a position we haven't had a regular in since Lee Naylor. Or could it go towards financing a loan deal for David Bentley, a player who plays in a position we could also do with sorting out?
I guess we will find out in January.
As JVD was signed as a left back, I think it's fair to assume we'll be lookin at that position in Jan. On paper JVD was a good signing: big, quick, powerful, good in the air, experience of playing in Europe and challenging for titles. Another player with similar credentials would be nice.
ReplyDeleteBentley for me is a non starter. Sees himself as a luxury player and would have too high an opinion of his own prowess for our dressing room. I can't see him tracking back enough for McCarthy, and he can also over elaborate at the other end, spurning chances by trying to be clever. Give me Jarvis and Foley any day.
We desperately need a top class left back. Wasting the money from JVD on a luxury like Bentley would be insane and surely a contradiction of everything that Mick stands for. But we also need an attacking midfielder to sit in front of the midfield 2 and link up with Doyle. If only we hadn't we'd managed to hold on to Mark Davies.
ReplyDeleteor rather, if only we'd managed to hold on to Mark Davies
ReplyDeleteI too liked the look of JVD, but this now HAS to force our hand into the transfer, Personally we need a new LB and CB so I would hope we are in the market for TWO DEFENDERS.
ReplyDeleteIf we can stop letting them in by the dozen at the back, the brilliant work Jarvis and co in front are doing means we will win more than we lose... and quickly climb out of trouble.
Then, at the end of the season, Morgan needs to ask Mick some serious questions, so that we dont end up constantly fighting relegation.
I want us to but I can't see Mick buying a left back. He thinks Ward and Elokobi are good enough, I see us buying a right mid but not Bentley. As you said, he's a luxury.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather Foley was a right back to be honest. I'd love to see Zubar at centre back. he has pace, power and seems to have cut out those silly mistakes he made at the beginning.
