Should've, could've, haven't

That was the most one-sided game I have ever seen in my time watching Wolves.

And we still lost.

Of course, we had to give them an early advantage inside the first three minutes didn't we? It's an amazing strike, a contender for goal of the season but I do feel Kevin Foley could have done better. After that, we settled into the game and were the better team for the rest of the half. We had all the ball and created some half chances but they still looked the more dangerous side when attacking.

Marcus Hahnemann made a very rare mistake. He misjudged the cross and watched in horror as Marlon Harewood poked home. Harewood was full of energy and running, something he never displayed in his loan spell with us.

I wasn't particularly surprised that Milijas was dropped to the bench. He had played for Serbia in the week and had been playing a lot for us recently. I was surprised however to see him come on not long until the game. Mick opted to bring him on for the injured Foley and move Mancienne to right back who I thought was superb there.

Does anything ever go our way? There were numerous penalty appeals, including one where two Blackpool players hand balled it and Nenad Milijas being brought down inside the box. Crosses fired in, never seeming to bounce the right way.

I can't understand why some Wolves fans think Doyle needs to be rested. He worked his socks off, on the ball he looked a threat and got a deserved goal. I'd back him to score again next week.

Hahnemann - 5

Foley - 6 (Milijas - 7)
Stearman - 6
Berra - 7
Elokobi - 6

Hunt - 6 (Ebanks-Blake - 7)
Jones - 7
Mancienne - 8
Henry - 7 (Fletcher - 6)
Jarvis - 8

Doyle - 8

The next few games are going to shape our season, we need some results.

  2. Yes Jed and I thought he was our best defender by a mile. The rest were quite sloppy.

  3. Sorry but we're going nowhere but down under McCarthy. His reshuffles today smacked of desperation. No wonder we couldn't find our rhythm, the players were all over the place.

The second half yielded lots of possession but were useless in the final third, players - especially Blake - were far too slow to react or unwilling to take a chance on anything.

Mick has to go if we're to remain a premier league side. The players need a boost and McCarthy is seemingly more and more desperate with each passing game. Time is running out and I'm sure Morgan won't want to owning a championship club again.

  4. Another game where we play well and lose. Our defence wasn't even that bad, an amazing goal and a mess up by Hahnemann.

Think we just need to stick at it and I honestly believe the results will come, starting next week.

  5. He got done half a dozen times, the most embarrassing being a clear nutmeg. He got done with a one two and had to block the forwards run resulting in his 5th yellow card of the season! 15 games in he's seen red and now will be suspended for Sunderland. So explain again where the 7 comes from?
    McCARTHY OUT!!

  6. I honestly dont know where we go from here. I watch every game, have been convinced its our back 4 that are the reason we are now (results pending) 6 points adrift of safety...
But that wasnt the case today. Mancienne and Big George were magnificent, and G's crosses are really starting to rival some of our more famed midfielders, Foley wasnt bad, but needed to make way for Milijas.

What i can tell you however, is that Hunt was absolute shit. he was simply taking up space today, maybe the void he cause in the middle unsettled things... I actually applaud Mick for having the balls to make a change early in the game when he saw the opporunity.

I dont think Mick is to blame for today and the players werent too crap overall, its just that Blackpool - yes, you heard it, time travellers from 2009, Blackpool - were just able to soak up everything we threw at them.

We are now favourites - wait a third just went in againt the hammers - we are now joint favourites to go down...

Boys and girls its time to start saving for cut price season tickets...

  7. He made several important blocks, was strong in the air. He was not at fault for either goal, and wasn't too bad on the ball. The best of the defenders for sure.

  8. Berra had a great game. Our defence werent to blame for today - 1 wonder striker and an awkward mistake for USA - it was the fact that we couldnt score in a Burmese knock shop, even if we had sterling, and Pfizer had sponsored all the drinks...

  9. We had so much of the ball it was unbelievable. Hunt was slow today and I think he could do with a rest for a couple of weeks. MAybe he was rushed back too early because we know what a good player he can be.

It;s not over yet, but we are going to need to do a hell of a lot of work to stay up

  10. I agree. I thought Berra was definitely our best defender. Foley was ok, Elokobi and Stears were a bit shakey. The defence isn't the problem, we need to start outscoring teams like Blackpool, West Brom and Bolton have been doing all season long.

  11. What a load of $hit!! We can't buy a win, Mick needs to go. Come on Morgan, open your eyes.

  12. How weird. I thought it was Berra's best game in ages and would've been leaning towards an 8 to be honest. We played some really good football today (even Holloway thought so) but we clearly have a choice: Do you we keep trying to play from the back through the midfield and hoper that the tide will turn? or take the more pragmatic, men behind the ball, out and out battling approach that served us so well last season? Personally, I think we have to keep our heads and continue with Milijas at the hub of everything and try to pass our way out of trouble. I think we are as close to a good team as I have seen since the late seventies and the results (narrow defeats are obviously better than thrashings) against the big teams support that argument. By the way, Hunt is still recovering from a long term injury and Mick is far too desperate to put him in the team for my liking but I think it would be unfair to judge him too harshly yet

It's not Mick ... He did everything right tactically. Today it was our keeper and our strikers. I've got a feeling that Doyle is going to score a lot more goals onwards.

  14. Interesting point - "he did everything right tactically" - which of course why he started with Milijas on the bench, then switched Mancienne with Foley before taking Foley off after 20 or so minutes. I'm lost for words! McCarthy is a great bloke but he has reached his sell by date.

  15. Mick's only wrong decision was leaving out Nenad, which was understandable. He took Foley off (injured) and then moved Mancienne and he had a good game there.

  16. Hahneman is getting slower for every game. And Henry keeps passing the ball the wrong way. Hennesey in.
