With Hahnemann, Basso, Jones and Mancienne all departing, it leaves it at 21. Bring Ikeme back in, and it's back up to 22.
Who are the incoming three then? I'm not 100% sure, but I think we have to name a third goalkeeper even if he is underage and that is largely the reason why it looks like we are set to sign one. Up to 23 then.

We've been linked with a move for Roger Johnson |
With David Jones leaving at the end of his contract, it leaves room for another centre midfielder. This is an interesting one. We don't really know what formation we will play. Mick looks like he wants to make 442, and stumbled across a formula for it towards the end of the season. If we were to sign a centre midfielder, along with Jamie O'Hara would that mean dropping our captain, Karl Henry? Up to 25.
As many of you will probably agree, I don't think we will sign only three players. The left back position is another priority, but I don't think it would mean selling George Elokobi. It would leave us with only one definite left back (assuming we bought one) so I can see us selling at least one centre back and unfortunately, it looks ever more likely that Steven Mouyokolo will be that man. We may want to sign two centre backs, so would that mean selling another centre back, or a fringe player like Dave Edwards, Adlene Guedioura or even Michael Kightly?
Here's what a 25 man squad could look like for us:
Hennessey
Ikeme
GOALKEEPER
Foley
Zubar
Craddock
Stearman
Berra/CENTRE BACK
CENTRE BACK

Happening again very soon, hopefully |
LEFT BACK
Hammill
Kightly
Jarvis
Hunt
Henry
Milijas
O'Hara
Guedioura
Edwards
CENTRE MIDFIELDER
Doyle
Fletcher
Ebanks-Blake
Ward
That also means no place for Greg Halford, Sam Vokes, Andy Keogh or Stefan Maiehofer who all look set to leave Molineux this summer.
If we signed good, capable players there to add to a group of players with 2 years Premier League experience we would be looking at quite a strong squad. So if we did, what would be our expectations?
Because you know what, I don't think my heart could taken another season like last year's.
Selling Guedioura would be stupid, since his injury he was one of our stand out players, and that was playing him on the wing when hes a centre mid! hes better than all our centre mids bar O'hara (if the deals gone through).
ReplyDeleteTips to be sold? Karl Henry and Nenad Milijas. And I don't think Craddock will sign after all
ReplyDeleteRichard Johnson would be a fantastic signing. We're also linked with David Vaughan, Blackpools player of the year (voted forth by the fans). These are two players that really would strengthen our team. O'Hara will be a stronger player physically than last season, and he was used as a cover for Spurs left fullback number 1. Besides David and Richard we've been linked with R.Dunne (a good player), and Bassong from Spurs (high quality defender which can operate in a left fullback position as well, and a finnish midfielder, Miralem Sulejmani, from Ajax (a great player and a type of player we lack in our squad, maybe with the exception of Guedioura when he's in form). And at last a player in the same category as the player from Ajax, the Nigerian midfielder from Monaco, Lukman Haruna.
ReplyDeleteTo me R.Johnson, Bassong, D.Vaughan top's my list from those players we are associated with.
If the choice stood between Suljmani and Haruna I would choose Haruna. I assess the french league better than the Dutch, and Haruna's shot is sharper. If we could get these 4 players I would say we could be destined for a midtable position.
Besides the players mentioned above we also have L.Griffiths available, contending for a squad number.
vokes and hof already been told they can go as they dont feature in future plans leaving 2 spaces more once they go
ReplyDeletespoke to craddock on twitter he is staying
ReplyDeleteLeigh Griffiths does not have to be included in the 25 though karlir.
ReplyDeleteBassong and Johnson would be perfect, I doubt we will get either as both could go to biger and better teams.
I like vaughan, but would prefer Gardner. Never heard of Sulijmai or Haruna, interesting prospects.
Hi Karlir,
ReplyDeleteDo you watch Haruna much? Or just the French leaue in general?
Thanks
Louie
I dont agree that Wolves are not a big enough club to sign Johnson, lets face it we are harbouring ambitions of a mid table or above finish this coming season and after all to everybodys delight BRUM were relegated, so lets start looking forward and really this quality player should be on the shopping list all the time and not looking at mediocre prem players and making do. The club need to be pushing the desire that all the fans share and prove how good the Wolves can be. Look at what the Villa have acieved over the years and then seriously think why cant we....They had very little to spend when Ellis was in charge and yet remained solid
ReplyDeleteI've searched up videos in google. My assessment of the two leagues is backed by the UEFA team ranking:
ReplyDeletehttp://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/trank2010.html. The finnish player has struggled earlier on to make an impact in the dutch league. The last seasons he's been brilliant though. So both players should be great investments. I forgot Gardner, which is a very similar player to Vaughan (my impression). It seems like MM has identified some issues. Both Haruna and Sulijmai are maestros of creativity - players typically found in Arsenals line up - like Arshavin and Nasri, players for the future.
Yes, and it seems like MM tries to do exactly that. All of the players we're linked with this time would be excellent signings. Moxey also underlines that they're working on several deals - spreading the risk. That is one step in the right direction concerning our transfer policy. I remember when we were promoted with D.Jones in charge. We had several transfer targets, but the big signings slipped through our fingers, Lescott was injured and we were relegated. As I see it our central defence, left fullback, central midfield is too weak. If we bring in the right players in those positions and the team gel, we could do what Everton has done the last seasons. I'm sure of it, because we've already got some great players in the other positions and a great manager.
ReplyDeleteI'd be delighted if we got either of them then, Haruna sounds more likely as I saw somewhere Sulejmani was bought for over £10 million.
ReplyDeletethe difference now is that unlike under Jones, we have an owner willing to give a good manager some money. I do often wonder how we might have done with Murray, Lescott and Ndah that year or even if Camara had learnt to finish six months earlier!
ReplyDeleteWell we didn't do too well in the january window. And it could've cost us. I really hope we can improve our play, scoring more goals on counter attacks. We were way better on that part of the game under D.Jones. The rat was good at running them in.
