Half time report

Just over half of the season has gone now, and I want to know your views on how we have done and what you think we need to do.

I took part in the half time report for the observer on Boxing day, I had been meaning to put it up before but I haven't had the time. Here is my piece:

How has the season gone so far? It's been a weird one. We started quite well but a run of poor results and horrible fixtures has kept us in the bottom three for most of the season. But this is the best football we've played in a while.

Seems a bit more unlikely now
Stars/flops? It's a joke that Matthew Jarvis hasn't made it into the England squad. Kevin Foley has been consistent, Nenad Milijas has a bit of class and, despite limited appearances, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has done well too. As for flops: Jelle Van Damme lasted only six games and Steven Fletcher has found it hard to get into the side.

Happy with the gaffer? Yes, he's doing a good job and he's doing it the right way.

Who should he sign? Joleon Lescott. It sounds unlikely but he hinted at a return not long ago and hasn't been playing. We could also do with a box-to-box central midfielder.

I was also in the observer yesterday for 'the verdict', here is what I said:

LOUIE SILVANI, MyWolvesblog.com Their first goal was really unlucky but if we don't take our chances that's what happens. Before both goals we had strong spells but didn't take advantage. Green really was important in keeping them in it before they scored with some good saves, and Scott Parker's doing a lot to help them too. Overall, though, they didn't look a better team than us despite the score. Foley and Milijas really ran the game for us - very strong. Fletcher looked good too and I think he'll earn a start on Wednesday. We've got to sort out our defence, but with our best striker, Doyle, and Karl Henry coming back we'll look better.

  1. How has the season gone? Not quite as planned, but still right in there.

Stars/Flops? Jelle van Damme for obvious reasons. Mouyokolo has either been injured or played rubbish too. Stearman inconsistent. Matty Jarvis, Milijas, Foley all played very well so far.

Happy with the gaffer? Always produced for us, I think he can again. Best man to take us up if we go down. Got the backing of board.

Who would you sign? A centre back and a winger. Curtis Davies is possible and we have been linked with Adam Hammill

Too many of the key players injured. Inconsistent quality as one might expect with so many key players injured at once.

I wish we'd sign: Adam Hammill. Reason: Hunt is a fighting energetic wing, but can't work miracles. Adam Hammill has the potential to go all the way, to become as good as Jarvis is. It is difficult to predict what he can do in premiership, but I think he has very much in common with Adam Johnson, a player who have dominated matches for Manchester City, a player who could have played for us. To me one player as influential and creative as Jarvis more would give us twice as many chances.

Arca: sign him too. We need a technical player like him. I guess we have a decent chance signing him. West brom plays the most attractive football at the moment, but Arca has played under MM in his time as manager at Sunderland. Sign him up

Paul Green: I can't see this player go into our first team. We've got enough work horses. Hunt, Foley, Edwards, Henry all falls into that category to me. Please don't sign him up.

Robbie Keane: A quality player who would fit right in, what more could one ask of? Has a lot of creativity and does create a lot of chances for others and himself. Sign him up.

    D. Wheater: A quality player in championship and a key player for Middlesbrough. Seems like a decent buy, but I'm not sure if he goes straight into our first team. A player for the future.

Michael Brown: An experienced player qurrently playing at Portsmouth. Could be a good signing. Has the necessary experience.

All these players has been linked to Wolves in transfer gossip. Now I will list some players that is not previously linked with Wolves,

    Striker:
Yakubu would be one player I would sign. Strong and pacey striker that would fit our direct play. Misfits Evertons extreme continental play.

Chinedu Obasi «Edu» Ogbuke is another Nigerian which is currently playing at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
    Would be a bargain.

Bjørn Helge Riise: A quality midfielder which isn't playing regular football at Fulham. Did exeptionally well in the champions league matches he played for Fulham. Plays central midfielder for the national team, but can also play on the right wing. Explosive player that plays agressively. Has a great right foot.

    Defender:
I would buy the Norwegian defender Rogne at Celtic. Was MOM last game against Rangers. Soon he won't be available for less money than Hangeland. Pacey defender, strong in the air.

  3. Some players I've never heard of, but then again I hadn;t heard of Zubar, Milijas and they are great players. Had a look and Yakubu still has a few years left in him, only 28 but we have three very good strikers. Keane i feel is past it, but might be a boost for the club.

I would sign Dale Jennings, quality player in league one. Tranmere would take a small fee (to us) and he's got years ahead of him.

  4. Some interesting suggestions. I would be quite happy with Curtis Davies but I still think what we need most is a left back. Is Arca really a left back? He played in midfield for sunderland didn't he? Hunt is a nuisance in a very positive way and gives his all but his pace has gone (if he ever had any) and at the moment his touch is decidedly rusty. So maybe we really do need another winger too to make sure we don't get caught the way we have without Kightly. If Arca is fit, why not?
But that troublesome left back spot. I like George but I worry about him all the time. Ward? is there really anymore to be said about Ward? Maybe we should wait to see where Bridge goes and buy whoever he replaces, or whoever he replaces replaces if you get my drift.
With Henry, Mancienne and Guedioura out we need more midfield cover so that has surely got to be the loan target. Get rid of Bent and bring in Michael Johnson (again if fit) from Man City.
If Ebanks-Blake keeps playing well and Fletcher continues fitting in, when Doyle is back we have 3 top class forwards to choose from.
Mostly I think we just need to not panic over this next month of so when we take on essentially 6 of the top 7.
What position does Chinedu Obasi «Edu» Ogbuke play, by the way?

  5. how has the season gone? bloody rubbish. we're bottom of the league
stars- Matthew jarvis flops-the rest of the squad. we're bottom of the league.
Happy with the gaffer? Don't be stupid. We're bottom of the league
who would you sign? Where to start? Also pointless because nobody is going to want to sign for us because...WE'RE BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE!

  6. You have obviously taken one glance at the table, and not bothered looking properly. 4 points from 12th, how many points have we taken from the next six games when we played them before? Six. At home to Man United, anything can happen. At Bolton could be a big game for us, and I can see us getting something. Then we have caught up quite a few ahead of us with nine games to go.

Chinedu Obasi «Edu» Ogbuke is a striker.

Actually I think Elokobi is one hell of a left back. And he'll improve further with more experience. I liked what I saw
when he ran up Liverpools Babel :). But I agree, there isn't much competition in this place. The question is if we have enough empty slots in the squad, and if the gaffer wants to spend money on a left back in the january window. There circulated rumours earlier on about a certain Newcastle player.

    Two new rumours:
Shittu is to sign for Wolves on a free transfer
Sidwell is again a possible transfer after due to hesitation from Westham.

    Comments:
Shittu is a welcomed addition to our team. Sidwell, how do you rate him? Does he add something we don't already have?
Can't say I know enough about this fellow to say if he's a good signing or not.

  9. Not sure about Shittu, don't think he is good enough. Sidwell would fit in well to our system, and he knows three of our players well. Just heard Curtis Davies could be going to Blackburn though, we should definitely try to get him. I think we are more of an attraction than they are!!
