I can't help but feel glad that we've 'missed out' on him.
The few times I have watched him I can't say I've been impressed. He is strong and throws himself in front of the ball but he is also slow, clumsy and rash. Is he actually any better than our current defenders?
I'd like to think that this now means Wolves can turn their attentions to other targets such as Roger Johnson, Sebastien Bassong and Jonny Evans. All players I believe, would cost between £5 - 8 million. Johnson right now, seems the most likely. Be patient though, because if we are going for him it is certainly not for the £10 million Birmingham now apparently want (which is also considerably less than they initially wanted).

I can see us getting him for around £8m because eventually Birmingham will have to give in, as they are in desperate need of the money.
Is one centre back enough though? It's possible that we are in for two. With Steven Mouyokolo going out on a season long loan, it leaves us with only three first team central defenders. Or maybe, just maybe is it finally time for highly rated youngster Danny Batth step up to first team action?
"dodged a bullet"? haha seriously. No I mean.. SERIOUSLY!
ReplyDeleteI wasn;t overly keen on Mills. Need premiership experience and completely agree with your assessment. Johnson with either Evans or Bassong would do for me. Ridgewell at LB?
ReplyDeleteProbably good enough for a championship team.....
ReplyDeleteBullet? Why would your management approach him and make an offer if they thought he'd weaken a side that leaked the third most amount of goals last season?!! It strikes me that a team that lets in 66 goals in the league alone could do with a highly rated defender. Sour grapes? Oooh they taste so bitter dont they?
ReplyDeleteI'd rather Wolves overspent by a couple of million on a premier league proven player like Johnson or Bassong than overspend on a man city reject that only plays well when your team is on tv.
ReplyDelete1-0 to Foxy
ReplyDeleteAgree, Mills is okay and might have improved us but do we really know that?? Buying Johnson would pretty much make sure of that. Also, what about Bougherra from Rangers? Solid defender and has played in prem before.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't dodged a bullet with the player necessarily, but definitely with the price. He'll be a fantastic signing in the championship but if we're going to spend that sort of money on a defender he really needs to have premier league experience. At that price this is probably the best outcome for all parties.
ReplyDeleteSour Grapes, what with you lot - don't think so. Can understand Mills signing for you anyway as he from there after all + he is no better than what we already have, and that says a lot! Good luck in your FKing Power Stadium next season. You will need it, especially with Kasper in goal. Leeds fans are glad to see the back of him.
ReplyDeleteCut out the mistakes and there will be no missing out on any player.
ReplyDeleteHow do you reckon ? Go and plague your own blogs fella.
ReplyDeleteWhen you've got the like of Leicester reject Stearman, how the hell, can you sat Mills wouldn't be an improvement.Look forward to passing you at the end of the season, as you final return to your level.
ReplyDelete5.5 mil ??? !!! No way... I have been screaming for us to push the boat out and spend a little BUT ONLY ON PROVEN PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS. Diesel_Sweeties says it very diplomatically, we dodged the bullet on price... Just cos Man City have pushed the price of players up doenst mean the rest of us have to be fleeced too. Im not fussed about losing out on Mills, but I am getting concerned that we've brought no one in to address our MASSIVE DEFENSIVE PROBLEMS.
ReplyDeleteWill have another stomach wretching seson if we wont find suitable defenders.
ReplyDeleteWhere are all these dirty, horrible Leicester fans come from? Just because they have signed a player that we were looking at for an over inflated price (with one year left on his contract) they seem to think they are already promoted. News for you guys, throwing money at it does not necessarily bring promotion. Wolves fans know this as it what we did for many years, which got us nowhere. I would say good luck again for next season but I'd only be lying.
ReplyDeleteAnd time running out for good hardworking premiership defenders. Moxey unbuckle your belt we need more money. Will see mr Morgan and Mr moxey puffing again like last game. Greetings from Malta up the wolves forever till i die
ReplyDeleteBig name manager, big name players and massive expectancy = CATASTROPHIC FAILURE!
ReplyDeleteas a Wolves fan we should know, been there experienced that. Leicester will not win promotion
leeds fans are gutted he's gone, my bother a leeds fan and he was telling me
ReplyDeleteHey we are Leicester City. Our club has always been a massive rollercoaster ride. We are either sh1te or great, fighting for promotion, or against relegation. Right now we are on an up and enjoying it while it lasts. You should join us, it's fun :)
ReplyDeleteOh wait you have Mick McMonotone in charge! Christ I'm feeling miserable now just thinking about him - so guess I can't really blame you for being disrespectful can I ;)
It does seem pretty obvious that we need to improve upon our defensive frailties...Craddocks last season?...I guess so I would like to see a top drawer centre half(proven) same for left back, i think experience will be key and an intelligent midfielder who has all of the wolves battling characteristics with a desire to succeed and win.....To all those Leicester fans, well done, you have probably inadvertently done us a favour considering how much u paid and the fellas wages...CHIN UP!!
ReplyDeleteStearman is miles better than Mills1
ReplyDeleteGo back to eating crisps and being rubbish!
I've never replied to a forum message before but I could'nt not to this remark, STEARMAN better than Mills???? stearman is a liability, the only time you see him is when he's got his head in his hands afetr another calamitous piece of defending.
ReplyDeleteKING POWER!!!
ReplyDeleteWell lets hope you never reply to a forum message after. You clearly know little about Stearman.
ReplyDeleteUnlike Mills he has proven Premiership ability - he came into the team at a difficult time last season and while he did make the occasional mistake so too did all the rest of our defence and many times he rated an excellent performance and will only improve.
If we do buy an experienced defender like Johnson then there is no reason why he could not forge a partnership with Stearman every bit as good as the one he enjoyed with Dann.
Stearman is better than Mills. Why even Stearman has held down a regular place in the Premiership and played a number of times for England U21s. He's younger than Mills too isn't he?
ReplyDeleteHopefully Wolves will go all out and sign Johnson and Ridgewell from Blues. And follow up with either Jonny Evans or Richard Dunne. Three new defenders is needed. Last season Wolves we lucky to stay up with a Championship looking defence. Craddock, Elokobi and Ward are not good enough. Stears and Berra could still improve and do okay. But if Wolves want to push on. Look at Stoke - paid the money for players and have got better and better. Shawcross and Huth at CB is pretty decent. I think Johnson and Evans would be even better. Worth the outlay!!
How many people thought we had "dodged a bullet" when we missed out on Scott Dann to the Blues, I just hope this is not history repeating itself.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of jelous wolfs fans out there,a club with no drive and ambition and not a great deal of money to spend either,a club that is always flirting with relegation, come on be honest when you were linked with mills most of you were happy for him to be a wolves player but now you think you had a lucky escape come on smell the coffee mills is quality and worth his transfer fee,as for stearman the leicester reject your welcome to him as he was one of our players that got us relegated.
ReplyDeleteMills isn't from Leicester.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the overspending on the transfer fee for Mills that I would have objected to, it was his wages. He is a decent defender that I would have like to see at the Wolves personally so fair play to Leicester for paying the extra cash he wanted. However stearing away from the slanging match that seems to have riled a few people up, I am a big believer in Wolves' transfer policy over the seasons since Big Mick has come in. The only big failing we have had has been suring up the defence which as we can see by everyone we've been linked to at the moment is obviously a big priority for the 3 Ms so having said that, it turns out Mills wasn't the sort of player that we wanted at Wolves in the end anyway. A player who had the chance to go to a hard working, growing, young, hungry, battle to the end, Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool beating, 50,000 seater stadium building team but chose to go to a mediocre Championship side who have fallen into a bit of money and have the same disillusions that Wolves fans had to suffer for years of throwing ridiculous money at players who wanted to strut rather that fight for the cause. In the end, you're welcome to Mills. Good defender, turned out to be hungry for money first and proving his quality at the highest level second.
ReplyDeleteAnd my message to the Wolves bloggers, I don't think you should get disheartened just yet. Have faith and you'll see that we will see some big(quality) defenders coming in during the close season. It was a lucky escape last season(even though we achieved more points than the season before) and I think you will see the board and manager remedy the leaky defence from last year.
UTW
Enjoy your last season in the prem you will be a long time forgotten with your championship stearman defender.Leicester will be back next season with lots of money to spend in the prem with many thanks to king power.
ReplyDeleteOh don't u just luv the transfer window, we r linked with all sorts;some good some bad. I personally think that sunderland have just signed the coup of the season with o'shea and brown now let's do the same with Johnson and dann. It's going to use all of our budget but a combined 20 million on 2 young proven centre halves will more than reap its rewards. Only need Riise at left back for 4 mil and we could even be lookin at top half.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.royals.org/
ReplyDeleteMills is a kunt of te highest order. Wait until you see his panic stricken hoofs or his wild lunges at better opposition. The best thing about him is his bird. Thanks for 5 mill
ReplyDeleteCan't belive the crap Leicester fans are coming out with who the hell are you wait till your Thai owners get bored and do one and Sven leaves for more money we are premier league deal with it bunch of clowns
ReplyDeleteI did say in the other Wolves blog that we'd better get Mills (there was so much fuss over him!) and I still say - why couldn't we have pitched in the extra million?
ReplyDeleteStill, it's 3-and-a-bit million that we can put towards another defender - there is ABSOLUTELY no reason not to have at least one new decent defender once season starts again!
Yeah, sure... we don't have Matt Mills therefore we are all horribly doomed to this most embarrassing failure of a season in the history of football!
ReplyDeleteNote the excessive sarcasm there!
Our forums looked exactly like this when we lost out on Craig m. Smith to Brighton. He went from a must have player to someone suddenly everyone thought was not good enough anyway! Only time will tell with Mills if us foxes have overspent on him. Dont be harsh on us. We keep pinching ourselves as never had this money before and even for the simple reason he now means Ade Akinbadbi is no longer our record signing it's gotta be a good thing. My 9 yr old boy supports wolves as well as Leicester so hope we meet in the Prem next year. Have a good season.
ReplyDeleteLol loving the leicester fans mouthing off now they got some money behind them. Always have been and always will be a poxy team. Everyone thought notts county would be winning games for fun under sven. He lasted long lol. Love the fact you think your promoted already just cause you have money. Think west ham, brum and few other clubs will have something to say about that. Patience wolves fans well get some players in. Matt Mills for 5.5? Or O'hara for 5, I know who got the best deal out of them two deals!! Utw
ReplyDeleteFoxforever - decent post & good luck to you next season
ReplyDeleteI for one would liked us to get Mills, but I so think you boys have paid too much for him, but as you said only time will tell, for me £4.5m compared to Ohara for £5m tells it's own story.
I think we will get Bassong or Upson & Evans or Johnson, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see Lescott on loan, Woodgate must be avoided, major mistake if that happens!!!
KTF
Wolvesforever
Well, I think you know more about Wolves' bidding strategy than I do so I'll be realistically optimistic! :)
ReplyDeleteSpot on mate, there is no reason to worry at all! We will get our men
ReplyDeleteI do believe the Leicester City fans are still bitter that we sold them a donkey of a striker that is still their "RECORD SIGNING" ? £5million for Akinbiyi !!!!! they say lightning never strikes twice in the same place? well we shall see.
ReplyDeleteGreat call jonny richards. As far as im concerned, Mills would have been worth a punt at the right price but around £5mill is not that price!!
ReplyDeleteBassong would be my preferance but i would be delighted with at least one of following; Johnson, Turner, Evans, Dunne or Bougherra.
I have heard rumours that we are in for Tomkins from West Ham. At 22 he would fit the young and hungry bill but I don't know enough about him tbh.
From what I've been hearing, I think we've managed to get Roger Johnson! :)
